Project Update.

Halfway into this week's project, and it's well behind schedule. I've only managed arounf 9,000 words (which, by general standards, wouldn't be too bad), and it appears that I shall have to fail this week's project. Not that I'm going to abandon it, oh no. Or maybe I will.

THIS WEEK'S PROJECT

WRITE A NOVEL IN 7 DAYS

Yes, that's what I'm doing this week. Seeing as I can't go to work because the boss is currently in Israel, as well as the fact I've been struck by some flu-like symptoms (plus everyone is heading back to university), it seems, whilst not necessarily the most logical thing to do, certainly a relatively constructive use of time.

Now, please note this project is called "Write a Novel in 7 Days", and not "Write the Great British Novel in 7 Days". So the end result may not be especially readable, and it probably won't be put forward for publication. Indeed, there's every chance that I will fail in this particular mission, especially if anything worth doing instead crops up. But the best thing to do is soldier on with it and see what happens. If you're interested, the working title is "The Life Of Ferdinand Twitch", which has a slightly twee ring to it. Might change it to something more visceral after a while, suggestions welcome.

The aim is to write between 70,000-100,000 words, so it's going to be an average of at least 10,000 words a day between today and next Saturday. One is wondering just how easy it is to become a recluse.

In other news, watch this trailer for "In the Mirror of Maya Deren" - Deren was an experimental film-maker of the 1940s/50s, as well as a dancer and ethnographer. It's worth checking out her work because it's a joy to watch. Though I've got a bit of a soft spot for her, she wasn't a bad looking woman (I'm superficial, shoot me).

Might be bothered to start blogging again probably soon enough, watch this space, if indeed anyone is watching it.

A compilation for New Year's Eve.

A few friends and I will (probably) be making mix CDs of the 2000s for New Year's Eve. I've no idea what the rest are doing, but my choices are all based on clear memories of the last ten years. So, I thought it best to give everyone, that is, anyone who downloads it, a sneak peek.

Download it here - and buy the albums if you like the music. Keep musicians in business, but fight for free music.

Track listing:

1) Mu-Tron - Ladytron
2) Farewell - Boris
3) Irish Blood, English Heart - Morrissey
4) Black and White Town - Doves
5) Girl - Beck
6) Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out) - Arcade Fire
7) Through The Wire - Kanye West
8) Hey Ya! - Outkast
9) Spiders (Kidsmoke) - Wilco
